Office 365 ProPlus Setup is available as a standalone offering, or as part of other Office 365 plans, such as Office 365 Enterprise E3.
Project and Visio aren’t included with Office 365 ProPlus Setup, but are available from other Office 365 Setup plans.
Even though Office 365 ProPlus Setup is a lot like other versions of Office, there are differences, including for Deployment differences and Licensing differences.
Office 365 ProPlus Setup is designed to run locally on PCs, so a persistent connection to the Internet is not required. IT administrators can also deploy Office and Office software updates using software distribution tools and infrastructure in more traditional private cloud environments.
Microsoft’s new Office 365 ProPlus Setup transparency efforts may have gotten a push of sorts. Back in November, the Dutch government claimed that Office 365 ProPlus violated the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) rules because of the information it reported to Microsoft. In March, Microsoft indicated it would add privacy controls for Office 365 ProPlus Setup and Windows 10, starting with version 1904.
The coming privacy changes were underscored this week in a Tuesday announcement by Julie Brill, corporate vice president and deputy general counsel at Microsoft, as well as a Wednesday announcement by Brian Albrecht, principal group program manager for Office data and privacy.

Office 365 ProPlus Setup is the suite of productivity applications (Access, Excel, OneNote, Outlook, PowerPoint, Publisher and Word) that Microsoft offers to organizations as part of certain Office 365 subscriptions. The applications are more frequently updated via Microsoft’s streaming “Click-to-Run” technology compared with so-called “perpetual license” Office products.
In addition to getting more frequent updates, the Office 365 ProPlus applications report information back to Microsoft. Such information, which used to be called “telemetry” by Microsoft (until it became a dirty word), is used to keep the service working optimally. Microsoft officials had previously suggested shying away from “telemetry” in favor of using “diagnostic data.”

For Microsoft Office ProPlus, each day, or each time the user logs on to their computer and launches an Office application, the computer connects to Microsoft’s Activation and Validation Service to verify the license status and extend the product key.
As long as the computer can connect to the Internet at least once every 30 days, Office remains fully functional. If the computer goes offline for more than 30 days, Office enters reduced functionality mode until the next time a connection can be made.
If I have an earlier version of Office on my computer, do I need to uninstall it before I download Office 365 ProPlus?
If you have an earlier version of Office and know your product key, Penn recommends uninstalling it before installing Office 365 ProPlus for optimal performance. Keep your product key in a safe place because you will need it if you choose to reinstall your existing version of Office at a later date.
Your product key is 25 characters and is typically found in your product’s original packaging or in the confirmation email you received after purchasing a product online.
If you purchased Microsoft Office from the Computer Connection, your product key is on the back of the CD sleeve. You should keep your product key in a safe place because you will need it if you choose to reinstall your product.

Should I install 32-bit or 64-bit version of Office 365 ProPlus?
Most users will do fine with the 32-bit version – it takes up less memory so won’t affect performance as much. However, if you are planning to use memory intensive aspects of the software (such as complex functions in Excel), you may want to choose the 64-bit option.
Do I need to be connected to the Internet to run Office 365 ProPlus applications ?
You will need to be connected to the Internet the first time you run one of the Office 365 ProPlus applications, so that the activation process can be completed.
